| A variância ambiental costuma ser bastante significativa em características de produção e de frutos, a maioria de herança quantitativa. Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar o efeito de anos e determinar o número de anos necessários para avaliação precisa do peso do fruto, peso de casca, comprimento, diâmetro, relação comprimento/diâmetro, rendimento de polpa e sólidos solúveis totais dos frutos de goiabeira-serrana (Acca sellowiana), em três anos de avaliação. Com exceção de sólidos solúveis totais, o efeito de anos representou grande parte da variância total. A partir do coeficiente de repetibilidade, determinou-se que seriam necessários no mínimo de quatro a seis anos de avaliação para seleção das plantas, com precisão de 80%. |

| A rota da embriogênese somática de Acca sellowiana, uma espécie arbórea frutífera com limitações quanto à propagação vegetativa, já foi estabelecida mas o número de embriões que restabelecem o crescimento após a fase cotiledonar é baixo. No presente trabalho, embriões somáticos em diferentes fases de desenvolvimento foram obtidos após tratamentos com 2,4-D e submetidos à condição de frio (4 °C) durante 20 dias, visando induzir a transformação de embriões somáticos em plântulas. Observou-se que 95% dos embriões zigóticos desenvolveram embriões somáticos quando tratados com 2,4-D de forma contínua (T1), enquanto que apenas 55% foram formados quando a auxina foi usada na forma pulsada (T2). | Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the physicochemical attributes and vitamin C contents of fruits of five Brazilian genotypes of feijoa (Acca sellowiana), at harvest and after cold storage. The Alcântara, Mattos, Helena, and Nonante cultivars, as well as accession 2316, were studied. The assessed attributes were: fresh mass loss, titratable acidity, soluble solids contents, soluble solids contents/titratable acidity ratio, pH, skin and flesh color, texture, and vitamin C contents (skin and flesh). | Abstract: The objective of this work was to investigate the effect of liming and phosphorus fertilization on the growth, mineral composition of the leaves, fruit yield, and mycorrhizal colonization of young feijoa (Acca sellowiana) plants. Treatments consisted of four liming levels - 0, 25, 50, and 100% of the dose required to raise the soil pH to 6.5 - and of five levels of P - 0, 60, 120, 180, and 240 kg ha-1 P2O5 -, placed in a randomized complete block design, in a split-plot arrangement, with three replicates. | Esse estudo teve por objetivo caracterizar variações na arquitetura floral da Feijoa sellowiana e determinar sua influência sobre a polinização. Foram avaliados o comprimento do pistilo, a distância entre estigma e estames, o diâmetro de abertura e a distribuição dos estames na flor, com base em 7 flores de 15 acessos do Banco de Germoplasma da espécie. Distinguiram-se 3 classes de distâncias médias entre estigma e estames: 0,2 (C1), 0,7 (C2) e 1,2 cm (C3), e duas classes de distribuição de estames na flor (radial e aleatória). | ABSTRACT Leaf area (cm2 per leaf) and leaf pigment content are important traits that can be used to better understand a plants physiology. In this study, empirical non-destructive models for leaf area and leaf pigment based on the leaf dimensions, length (L) and width (W) in centimeters, and chlorophyll meter readings were developed for feijoa (Acca sellowiana). | RESUMO Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a viabilidade e o vigor das sementes de dois genótipos de Acca sellowiana sob diferentes condições e tempos de armazenamento. As sementes foram obtidas a partir de duas plantas (G1 e G2) localizadas em quintais da área urbana de Vacaria-RS. | ABSTRACT: The objective of this paper was to identify the direct and indirect effects of feijoa fruits (Acca sellowiana) traitson pulp weight, in order to use these traits in indirect genotypes selection. Fruits of five feijoa plants were collected in Rio Grande do Sul, in the years of 2009, 2010 and 2011. Six traits were evaluated: diameter, length, total weight, pulp weight, peel thickness and number of seeds per fruit. In the path analysis, with or without ridge regression, pulp weight was considered as the basic variable, and the other traits were considered as explanatory variables. | Abstract: The objective of this work was to quantify the total phenolic content (TPC) and total antioxidant activity (TAA) of fruit from Brazilian genotypes of feijoa (Acca sellowiana). Skin and flesh tissues of the fruit were evaluated for the Alcântara, Helena, Mattos, and Nonante cultivars, and for the 2316 accession. TPC and TAA were both assessed in aqueous and hydroalcoholic extracts, and TAA was assayed by the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and ABTS [2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid)] methods.
